Crab Spaghetti

The MW&B version keeps the comfort of pasta but pulls it back from “restaurant cream-bomb” territory, because we are trying to eat well, not take a nap two hours later.

Serves: 4
Prep time: 10 minutes
Cook time: 15 minutes
Total time: 25 minutes

Ingredients

  • 8 oz thin spaghetti or whole-wheat spaghetti
  • 12 oz cooked lump crab meat, picked over for shells
  • 1 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
  • 2 garlic cloves, finely minced
  • ½ cup plain Greek yogurt
  • ¼ cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese
  • ¾ cup reserved pasta water
  • Zest and juice of 1 lemon
  • 3 scallions, thinly sliced
  • 2 tbsp chopped parsley
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • Pinch of chili flakes, optional
  • Sea salt, to taste

Method

  1. Cook the pasta.
Bring a pot of salted water to a boil. Cook the spaghetti until just al dente. Save ¾ cup pasta water before draining.
  2. Build the base.
Warm olive oil in a large pan over medium heat. Add garlic and cook for 30 seconds. Do not brown it. Burnt garlic ruins everything, and somehow people still keep doing it.
  3. Make the sauce.
Lower the heat. Add Greek yogurt, Parmesan, lemon zest, lemon juice, black pepper, and a splash of pasta water. Stir until smooth.
  4. Toss the pasta.
Add the spaghetti to the pan and toss gently. Add more pasta water as needed until the sauce coats the pasta.
  5. Add the crab.
Fold in the crab meat gently so it stays in nice pieces. Warm it through for 1–2 minutes.
  6. Finish.
Add scallions, parsley, chili flakes if using, and a final squeeze of lemon. Serve right away.

Why This Fits MW&B

Protein matters: Crab gives this pasta a strong protein lift, which helps make it more of a meal and less of a bowl of simple carbs.

Portion control without punishment: Pasta can fit the MW&B lifestyle when the portion is sensible and the plate includes protein, herbs, acid, and better fats.

Lighter creaminess: Greek yogurt gives body and tang without relying on heavy cream.

Real food first: Crab, pasta, yogurt, lemon, herbs, garlic, scallions, olive oil, and Parmesan. Simple ingredients. No powdered sauce packet nonsense.

Flavor is doing the work: Lemon, garlic, scallions, parsley, black pepper, and Parmesan give this dish brightness and depth without needing a heavy sauce.

Better balance: Serve it with a green salad, roasted broccoli, asparagus, or sautéed spinach to bring the fiber and plants up.

Chef Mark’s Tip

The sauce should be silky, not thick and claggy. Pasta water is the key. Add it slowly and toss the pasta well. That starch helps the yogurt, Parmesan, lemon, and olive oil come together into a proper sauce.

MW&B Serving Suggestion

Serve this with a simple arugula salad with lemon, olive oil, cucumber, and shaved fennel. You get protein from the crab, energy from the pasta, healthy fat from olive oil, and more plants on the side. That is a much better plate than just inhaling a mound of noodles and calling it dinner.
