real food, real flavor, real life.
Funny thing, I never drank a great deal of coffee until I arrived in the states. Back home in England, the day certainly didn’t start until you had a “cuppa” hot tea. Now coffee is something I look forward to as I get back from the gym, shower and dress. To help make sure I got out of the house and to work on time, I came up with my morning coffee fix. This can actually be made the night before and left in the fridge until the next day. Give it a quick shake when you pull it out of the fridge, and you are out of the door with your Coffee Fix on the Go. This also makes the perfect snack between breakfast and lunch. My coffee drink is dairy free. Made with filtered water, it includes a banana for a good source of potassium. Potassium plays a major role in the body as it regulates fluid, electrolyte balance and maintains cell integrity. Bananas provide 3 to 4 grams of fiber each and are low in calories. Choose your favorite expresso and just blend everything together to get your morning kick from coffee and one portion of fruit in a quick, easy, delicious drink. Got to run. Enjoy!

Real Food First
This drink is made with espresso, almonds, filtered water, banana, ice, and optional maple syrup. It is simple, recognizable, and made without artificial creamers, flavored syrups, stabilizers, or bottled coffee-shop nonsense pretending to be breakfast.
Daily Movement Support
This works well after a morning workout or as a quick snack between breakfast and lunch. The banana provides carbohydrates and potassium, while the almonds add healthy fat, a little protein, and minerals.
Healthy Fats
Raw almonds provide unsaturated fats, which help make the drink more satisfying. They also add creaminess without needing dairy, creamers, or heavily processed alternatives.
Plant-Forward
The recipe uses banana and almonds as the base, giving it natural sweetness, texture, fiber, and plant-based nutrition.
Gut Health and Digestive Support
Banana and almonds provide fiber, which helps support digestion and fullness. It is not a high-fiber meal on its own, but it is a better option than many bottled coffee drinks loaded with added sugar and very little nutritional value.
Reduce Harmful Inputs
This homemade version lets you control the sweetness. The maple syrup is optional, so you can keep it free from added sugar or use a small amount if needed. Compared with many store-bought coffee drinks, this keeps the ingredient list short and avoids artificial flavors, preservatives, and excessive sweeteners.
Assessment and Adjustment
This recipe is easy to adjust. Leave out the maple syrup if the banana gives enough sweetness. Add Greek yogurt or protein powder if you want more protein. Add cinnamon for warmth. Add chia seeds or ground flaxseed for more fiber. Use decaf espresso if caffeine later in the day affects sleep.
Sleep and Recovery
Because this contains espresso, timing matters. This is best earlier in the day, especially for anyone sensitive to caffeine. MW&B is not about pretending caffeine has no consequences. It is about enjoying it wisely, preferably before it wages war on your sleep.
Healthy Skepticism
This is not a magic fat-burning coffee drink, because those claims need to be marched directly into the sea. It is simply a homemade coffee smoothie with real ingredients, natural energy, and better control over sugar and additives.
MW&B Balance
- Energy: banana and optional maple syrup
- Healthy fat: raw almonds
- Hydration: filtered water and ice
- Caffeine: espresso
- Flavor: coffee and banana
- Best add-ons: cinnamon, chia seeds, hemp seeds, Greek yogurt, or protein powder
Optional MW&B Additions
- Add cinnamon
- Add 1 tablespoon chia seeds
- Add 1 tablespoon ground flaxseed
- Add 1 scoop protein powder
- Add plain Greek yogurt if not keeping dairy-free
- Use decaf espresso for an afternoon version
- Use unsweetened almond milk instead of water for extra creaminess
- Add a few ice cubes for a thicker blended drink
Chef Mark Note
This is a quick, practical, real-life recipe for busy mornings. It gives you coffee, one portion of fruit, healthy fats from almonds, and a little natural sweetness from banana.
Make it the night before, shake it in the morning, and get out the door. Simple, useful, and far better than standing in a coffee shop queue pretending a syrup-heavy drink is “breakfast.”
